Respite Direct Care Worker (Oswego)

Role and Responsibilities
? Evaluate Respite Program Participant charts frequently to stay informed of their safeguards/allergies/needs
? Provide positive interaction with and lead group activities for individuals/children during respite program
? Direct participants in appropriate behavior, redirect when needed
? Model positive behavior and decision making for Respite participants
? Facilitate inclusive opportunities, for participants, whenever possible
? Provide transportation services, when needed, and follow all traffic laws while operating the Respite Program vehicle
? Encourage active participation of coworkers, volunteers and participants in all activities
? Develop positive working relationships with parents and guardians
? Maintain professional conduct / detachment from personal involvements with the consumer and /or their family
? Complete required documentation for monthly reporting (Case Notes and RDRIS forms)
? Comply with all HIPAA, OPWDD, OIG, OMIG, DOH and FSS Regulations
? Understand and Comply with the Oswego YMCA Compliance Plan, Guidebook and Policies
? Maintain current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications
? Attend all assigned programs and events (on time and prepared)
? Participate in all staff meetings (attendance is mandatory)
? Communicate regularly with supervisor / director to review best practices and training needs to maintain quality respite services
? Report any unsafe situations, accidents, or incidents to supervisor immediately
? Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
? High School Diploma (some college education preferred)
? Excellent Communication and Writing Skills (mandatory)
? Minimum of 6 months experience working with people with developmental disabilities
? Valid Driver's License -- Clean record
? Clean background check, OPWDD fingerprinting, NYS Office of Children and Family Services Child Abuse Registry
? First Aid and CPR (helpful)
? Knowledge of Health and Fitness / Aquatics (helpful)
? Basic Swimming Skills (tread water, deep water competency, etc.)
? Physical demands to include: swim, walk, run, sprint, stoop, kneel, reach, sit , stand , push, pull, lift, talk and hear; and
exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and /or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects and assist people in and out of wheelchairs and Respite vehicle

Facilitate:
? Provide inclusive YMCA and community activities available to all participants
? Create a safe environment that promotes independence and normalization for developmentally disabled people
? Be friendly, courteous, enthusiastic and helpful toward participants and their families allowing for genuine relationships to be built

  • Compensation: $8.50/hr
