Expensive treatment
Cosmetic surgery was often done because it was medically necessary for the life and health of the patient. Few had cosmetic surgery simply to enhance some feature of their face or body. The procedures were very expensive and few insurance companies covered any procedures other than those dictated by medical necessity.Common surgery
Today cosmetic surgery is so common most people either know of someone in their circle who have had some type of cosmetic surgery or have had procedures done on themselves. Those seeking cosmetic surgery wish to change some outward feature about themselves. This might be breast enhancement or shortening a nose, getting rid of wrinkles or lifting cheekbones. Perhaps they want to look like their favourite celebrity or feel that they will fit into society better if they looked 'perfect'.Depression
However, when a person realises the reason why many of the cosmetic surgeries are done today, one fact stands out. A high percentage of cosmetic surgeries are done because the person does not feel good about him or herself. The person, somehow, believes changing something on the outside will change that voice inside that tells them they aren't good enough, pretty enough or worthy as a human being. It is those who've gone through traumatic events that often seek the services of the cosmetic surgeon. These events include a tragic death of someone close, a failing marriage, a divorce or the loss of a job. What these individuals often do not recognize, nor do the surgeons, is that the basis of their desire stems from very real depression.Source: http://healthsandwealths.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-link-between-depression-and.html
