Folsom man who police say sold stolen rifle to Kentucky pawn shop ...

A Folsom man wanted for abandoning his parole in St. Tammany Parish is now facing 24 state and federal charges in Kentucky after being arrested for selling a stolen rifle to a pawn shop and leading police on a high-speed chase. Thomas William Bunn, 26, appeared before a magistrate judge in London, Ky. Tuesday, where he was told what charges he is facing. Another hearing is scheduled Thursday.

Bunn, who has bank fraud, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and possession of cocaine convictions in St. Tammany, is facing federal charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a stolen firearm in the Eastern District of Kentucky, court records show. He was sentenced in St. Tammany to seven years hard labor in 2009 on the bank fraud charge, and was released on parole in August, according to court records.

According to an affidavit filed in federal court, Corbin, Ky., about 90 miles south of Lexington, authorities began looking for Bunn on Oct. 28, when the manager of a Days Inn there called police to report a suspicious truck in the motel's parking lot. When police arrived, the driver sped away and led officers on a high-speed chase down Interstate 75, the affidavit states. The driver eventually stopped and fled on foot, according to the affidavit.

Officers took a pawn ticket for a $300 transaction of an AR-15 rifle and 20 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition from inside the truck, according to the affidavit. They found the truck's registered owner, Bunn's dad, and learned Thomas Bunn was wanted for abandoning his parole in Louisiana, according to the affidavit. Kentucky authorities arrested Bunn Oct. 31 at a home in Whitley County, near the Tennessee border, based on a tip.

Through a search of an online database, St. Tammany Parish detectives discovered that the AR-15 rifle, which was sold to a pawn shop in Williamsburg, Ky., was stolen during a home burglary in Jackson County, Fla. on Oct. 22, according to the affidavit filed in federal court. A tracking device on Bunn's truck showed the truck left Louisiana and ended up in Jackson County, Fla., according to the affidavit.

The Corbin, Ky. Times-Tribune reported Corbin Police charged Bunn with 15 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment to officers, three counts of first-degree criminal mischief and one count each of fleeing or evading police by motor vehicle, first-degree fleeing or evading police by foot, speeding 26 mph or more over the posted speed limit and reckless driving.

Bunn also is a suspect in two October home burglaries in Folsom, court records show.
